California Retro Party Bedded Hair

California Retro Party Bedded Hair

Bedded hairstyle

It doesn’t take a night of clubbing, a couple after hour parties, and then some naughty to get today’s retro-bedded hairstyles that are being strutted down the catwalks.  Here’s your shortcut from Dimension A Salon that’s as easy as 123.

  1. On really well towel dried hair, work-in your most FAV mouse, spray bodifier, or texturing sea salt spray.
  2. Scrunching up the ends, and dry your hair with the diffuser aimed at your scalp.  Once dry, release the ends and lightly twirl irregular sections around your fingers.  Dry off any moisture with the diffuser while the hair is twirled.
  3. Finger position the waves, and secure by spraying with a memory hairspray.  You may also like to apply a bit of serum to the ends, but don’t over do because too much of a good thing is never good.

There you go!  Now you are free to create away.

High Fashion Hair Couture

High Fashion Hair Couture

Hair in the 1980’s became obstreperous (think Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Want To Have Fun), and today a similar insurgence echoes.  What are we referring to?  A little known cutting technique called undercutting that has roots back to the 1920’s when men wore short cut sides and backs with length through the top that did not blend. Today we see variations of this rogue couture hair worn by Lindsay Pavao, Lee Jae Jin, Pink, and Cassie to name a few.  The beauty of this vivacious look is that it ranges from chic whispering, to in vogue shouting, to down right du jour screaming; and to further play up the cut’s boldness pop art color is being used.  The bejeweled coloring technique pushes the limits of edgy urbanity without crossing over the line of punk while offering women the chance to fashion their hair color even more eye-catching.

Luxuriant Falling Curls

Luxuriant Falling Curls

PSST, do you love Maya Rudolph’s stylish asymmetric falling curls?  So do we!  Here is how you can recreate that look yourself.  First, make a deep side part. Starting at the back to just below the crown take alternating 1” and 2” vertical sections, and spray each section lightly with a flexible memory spray.  Then, wrap vertically one section around a 1-inch curling iron and the other around a 1-1/4 inch curling iron. This creates a more natural curl fall.  Continue curling your hair in this fashion until you’ve curled your entire head of hair
To position the curls:

  • ·      Bring all of your hair over to the one side
  • ·      Secure the hair in place with bobby pins by pinning up the bobby pin in a lined row
  • ·      Spray onto your fingers a shining spray, and
  • ·      Gently intertwine the curled sections into one another with your fingers.

Set the finished look with flexible hair spray [Dimension A Salon - San Francisco, recommends Kur’s Finish Lacca] by spraying your fingers gently entwine the hair ends.  Lastly, lightly spray your entire head of hair and finger arrange.  VoilĂ !
